How to fight corruption.
In Botswana, if a police officer stop you for a traffic violation and you solicit a bribe, you are certainly getting arrested for bribing a police officer.
Botswana has been ranked for several years as the least corrupt country in Africa. In the latest corruption perception index they are ranked First while second placed country in Africa is Cape Verde and the most corrupt nation is Somalia, even though Somalia is raising and moving forward.
The country is one of the least corrupt in Africa not because they don’t have corrupt people but because they don’t sweep corruption under the rug. They probe and prosecute corruption cases regardless of the suspect’s social status.
The recent corruption scandal making waves in the country is the one of the former President Khama who allegedly hoarded guns at his residency. A warrant of arrest has been issued by his own party members who are in charge of the government. Something that is very rare in Africa.
No wonder why Botswana is one of Africa’s most progresive and fastest developing countries.
